Who we are

Barnsley Theatre Trust (1998) Limited was founded in June 1998 and The Lamproom Theatre opened its 187 seat auditorium for performances in April 1999, following a great deal of endeavour by a committed group of volunteers. The core activity of Barnsley Theatre Trust (1998) Limited is ‘To promote and advance theatrical arts within and for the entire community of Barnsley and the surrounding areas.’ The specific aim of The Lamproom Theatre is ‘To develop and maintain a community theatre through the promotion and development of an equitable spectrum of artistic activities to benefit and improve the quality of life of local people and visitors.’

How you can help

There are many volunteering opportunities available, including:- Front of House staff - i.e. showing people to their seats, selling ice creams, helping with Health and Safety issues during a performance. Bar staff - serving drinks in the Theatre Bar. Joining The Friends of The Lamproom Theatre - a group who fund-raise, help with publicity, organise social events and help in whatever way they can to promote and support the theatre. Joining one of The Lamproom performing groups i.e. The Lamproom Theatre Company or The Lamproom Musical Theatre Company. There are no specific entry requirements for new volunteers, but most roles do include dealing with members of the public, so a smart appearance is important as an ambassador for The Lamproom Theatre.
