Who we are

The Friends of Wombwell Cemetery is an award-winning voluntary organisation whose aim is to create a cleaner, greener, safer space for the community. Since 2002, the Friends have worked together to tidy the cemetery of litter and natural debris, maintain the 150+ year old grounds and two chapels, look after graves and memorials, promote history and public figures buried in the cemetery, and hold events to spread awareness of the group and celebrate our successes.

How you can help

Outdoor: Litter picking, grass cutting, weeding, edging the paths, sweeping paths, cleaning the Peace Garden, taking members of the public to graves located on our database, tidying graves, cleaning memorials, assisting with self-guided tours and the CemeTree Trail if requested. Indoor: Serving tea and coffee in the Community Hub, finding graves on our computer database, helping with indoor events, helping with fire safety checks in the Community Hub, and joining our monthly meetings to have your say.
