Who we are

The Barnsley Main Heritage Group are volunteers committed to the conservation and protection of the Barnsley Main Colliery site. Barnsley is a town built on coal and we aim to make this Grade II listed building and the surrounding site a high quality visitor attraction, urban heritage park and memorial to the South Yorkshire coalfield. Our group motto underpins all we aim to do – Conserve – Protect – Educate.
